10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not always fun for many of us. But it needs to be done. As the winter end and we start looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of a house?
The outside of your home could use some refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Brandon, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot of money in years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris collected during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t cleaned.
Plus, pests and animals are looking for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a nice appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows shouldn’t cause you much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows are a bit trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tough job, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the perfect way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You do not want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can clean your house, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem silly since you will be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it can be easy to forget about it during the winter since you aren’t doing as much outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio might be in pretty rough condition the first time you step onto it in the spring.
Soap and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or algae, you may need to think about a more serious option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are common roof problems in Brandon. While you are cleaning the outside of your home, it is a great time to clean your home’s roof too, but you will have to use a different process than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.
If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your home’s roof.
The ideal process for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and then let it sit. This will kill any organic organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is probably what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will immediately improve your day, and will motivate you to spend more time outside.
You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a really fresh look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You will be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is a great time to organize whatever you will need for outdoor work.
Yard tools and pool care equipment should all have a specific place outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the outside of your home so much more during the time of year when you are going to spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a major impact on the look of your home.
Remove weeds near your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you don’t leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
You could probably complete these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Brandon Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
